1. The German RuneQuest Society
  2. History of the RuneQuest society

What is it?

The German RuneQuest Society is an organisation dedicated to propagate and support the roleplaying game RuneQuest, it´s related BRP games (Call of Cthulhu, Stormbringer, Nephilim, Pendragon, etc.), with all their background worlds, as well as the game-world of Glorantha and it´s Roleplaying Systems (RQ2 + 3, Hero Wars, etc.).

Founded in Germany in 1991, we have since spread into other European countries and started organisations in North America and Australia under the name of Chaos Society. Even due to the changes with RuneQuest sold to Hasbro, and the new gloranthan game being Hero Wars, we decided to keep the established name RuneQuest Gesellschaft e.V..

To quote from the Rules of the Society (a horrible nonetheless necessary German legalism):
It is the purpose of the society to promote and support the fantasy role-playing game RuneQuest, related roleplaying games and settings. Likewise, the society is interested in the historical, mythological and ethnological background of fantasy-roleplaying games. To this end, the society arranges gaming conventions, publishes a magazine, offers advice in questions concerning the rules of games and undertakes other measures to further its goals.

Activities of the RQ Society

We organize one three-day convention every year at Pentecost/Whitsunday, from Friday evening to Monday noon. Events featured usually include a freeform game, game rounds for Hero Wars, Cthulhu, Stormbringer and other related systems, panels, life action trollball, and many other activities.
We present Hero Wars, Cthulhu, Stormbringer, the society, and our products at conventions and game-fairs, by hosting game rounds, offering panels, and/or setting up information booths.
We publish the Glorantha magazine Tradetalk, the official magazine of the Chaos Society  with about three issues per year. We also publish each year a bigger tome, as foundraiser for TENTACLES Convention. In the past we published a german magazine, which lasted for 20 Issues, and published two (German language) scenario packs for RuneQuest/Glorantha. Some Freeform booklets, german as well as english, saw print as well.
Inquiries to any of the chairmen (André, Ingo, Fabian).
